What they do manufacture is the building envelope system: MemBrain smart vapor retarder, CertaSpray closed-cell foam in select densities, and the acrylic-latex air sealing compounds that tie their insulation systems to the drywall and framing below. The compatibility question isn’t “which model” but which generation of CertainTeed insulation is already in your attic.

If your attic has CertainTeed fiberglass batts with the brown kraft facing stamped “CERTAINTEED” in red, the facing itself is not an air barrier - it’s a vapor retarder, and it’s almost certainly leaking at every electrical penetration and partition wall top plate. If you have blown-in InsulSafe SP or TrueComfort, the bag count and settled depth determine how much of that insulation we’ll need to temporarily move to access the ceiling plane for sealing. We check the stamp on the batts or the bag labels in your rafters, then match the sealant chemistry: acrylic latex for fiberglass-facing contact, low-expansion polyurethane for gaps around metal flues and chimney chases. Aftermarket equivalents from Tremco and OSI work fine for most applications, but CertainTeed’s own sealant is formulated for their facing adhesives and won’t delaminate the kraft paper. Signs Your CertainTeed Attic Air Sealing Is Failing

• Dust streaks on ceiling insulation. Air moving through gaps carries house dust that deposits on the first fibrous surface it hits. In La Habra, we see this most often above central hallway ceilings where the HVAC return pulls attic air through a leaky top plate.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s what you can safely check yourself: pull back insulation at two or three attic hatches and look for gaps where interior walls meet the ceiling drywall - the top plate. Shine a flashlight down plumbing vent pipes; if you see daylight around the boot where it exits the roof, that’s a leak. Check can-light housings for missing or brittle gaskets.

Here’s where DIY goes wrong: attic air sealing requires working at height, on decking that may not support your weight between joists, around energized electrical boxes and sometimes live knob-and-tube wiring we still find in La Habra Heights-adjacent homes built before 1975.
